Learn to accept

As I was reading To Kill A Mockingbird today, I came across one of Atticus’ advices to Scout that really got me thinking.
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view-” – “until you climb into his skin and walk around in it”
I cannot get over how true, yet difficult, this piece of advice is. It is so easy for each and every one of us to start judging people. We judge their looks, their actions, their attitude, and even their beliefs. We never really give a chance for ourselves to just take a moment and think before we start judging. No matter how hard we try, we’ll never be able to reach out into someone’s mind and feel what they feel, we’ll never really understand the true motivation for a persons actions. And this is why judging people is never okay.  If you give yourself the chance to understand that every human being is different, it is guaranteed that you will be a much happier person. Because not everyone is going to agree with everything you say, not everyone is going to like you, not everyone is going to understand your emotions and actions, and that’s perfectly okay. The only time it would be okay for you to judge a person is “until you climb into his skin and walk around in it”. And because this is physically impossible, learn to accept and understand.
Learning to accept people isn’t something a person is born with, it is something you teach yourself to do if you want to succeed and become a happier person.
So take as much time as you need, give yourself the chance to understand everything around you, learn to accept people, and smile.
